Events & Activities

As we transition back to "normal" event activities, we are still prioritizing the health and safety of our visitors and staff.

We encourage physical distancing during event activities,

and adults are still required to wear masks for entry into the General Store.

Every weekend at Huble Homestead visitors are invited enjoy different self-guided activities. Demonstrations and activities on event-day weekends no longer require pre-booking.

Self-led activities are included with an admission donation - check in at the General Store to pick up your envelope of supplies. Don't forget we are also home to a number of geocaches!

Admission to the Huble Homestead is by donation. Your donations are put towards programming, collections, and site maintenance. The suggested donation is:

 

Adults - $5.00

Children and Seniors - $3.00

Family - $10.00

Your donations help us provide affordable activities at events and maintain the historic site.

We also acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia for this public program.

June 29 - July 4

Passport to the Past

Passport to the Past: Using an itinerary, explorers will make their way around the site, finding the different provinces and going for a trip across the country! Once completed, travelers can make their way to the General Store for a prize, and keep the passport!

Historic Places Day: Join us to take part in the self-guided Passport to the Past activity, pick up a craft kit to use at home or at the homestead. Book ahead for a demonstration time slot and take part in old-fashioned ink making, butter making, or ice cream making! 

 

Week-long Activities: Visit the site between 10:00 and 3:00 on June 29th and 30th to collect your craft kit and take on the self-guided activity! Book ahead for a demonstration timeslot on July 1 or July 3 to really get your hands on history.

*Please note that due to the current heatwave, the site is on reduced hours, and is open from 10:00 - 3:00 until Sunday, July 4.

Self-Guided Treasure Hunt : Using a map, a brochure, and your wits, answer the questions to find the locations listed on the treasure hunt! Each location has a letter - either clearly visible, or maybe a little more hidden! Write down the letters, then unscramble them to form a name or phrase.

I Spy

 

I Spy: Another activity to test your eyes! Check in at the General Store to pick up a list of items  that have been hidden throughout the historic site, and see if you can find where all of them are! Download here to get started upon arrival!

Meet the Hubles

 

Meet the Hubles: Explore the homestead to find photographs of each member of the Huble family! Once you have found a photo, take note of the information about them, and use that to answer the questions on the sheet you'll pick up at the General Store! This is the perfect way to find out more about each family member. Once you're all done, head to the General Store to be rewarded for your efforts!

Taste of the Past (Saturday)

 

Take a delicious step back in time at Taste of the Past. Join us Saturday to make and taste delicious foods the old-fashioned way, including butter, ice cream, candy, and more! Demonstrations will no longer require pre-booking, but we ask that participants either wear masks or observe adequate physical distancing when taking part in a heritage demonstration or activity! Scavenger Weekend: This self-guided event for will be available from Friday to Sunday, and will challenge visitors to not only find a list of items, but complete a list of tasks!

Homestead Days

 

The Portage Game: Check in at the General Store to take on the role of an explorer, guide, homesteader, or prospector, and receive a list of items to find around the homestead! Once you have found the locations of the items, collect them all, and make your way back to the store to trade them in for a prize!

Homestead Days: Step back in time to Prince George’s past with Homestead Days. August 21 | Hands-on History (Saturday)

Put your hands on history with a day full of traditional skills demonstrations. on Saturday, August 21. Chat with costumed staff as they show off what they have learned making soap, paper, ink, and more. Full schedule to come, no pre-booking required.

 

August 27 - 29 | Watson Weekend (Friday – Sunday)

Another chance to prove your sleuthing skills! Drop in all weekend for the basic activity, or pre-register for the Sherlock Saturday challenge on August 28!

 

September 5 - 6 | Potato Festival (Sunday - Monday)

Celebrate the mighty spud with heirloom potato purchases, tater-themed games and crafts, demonstrations, contests, and games. Order lunch from our special starchy menu and enjoy live music before browsing the General Store during our end-of-summer sale. 

 

September 25 - 26 | Scavenger Weekend (Saturday – Sunday)

A whole new hunt to round out the season.

 

October 9 - 10 | Old Fashioned Thanksgiving (Saturday – Sunday)

Visit Huble Homestead for the last weekend of the season Saturday and Sunday October 9 & 10. Take a guided tour, collect your craft kit, and explore the historic site with a self-led activity before the park closes for the year. Enjoy a special seasonal menu and live music, and take 10% off all locally made goods in the General Store during the season-end sale (20% off for members!). Book your timeslot in advance to take part in heritage demonstrations.
