Taste of the Past
On Pause - check back for 2024!
Take a delicious step back in time at Taste of the Past!
Join us at the homestead for a tasty day of food demonstrations! Our staff , as well as some knowledgeable community members, are going to be demonstrating old-fashioned food skills such as butter making, ice cream making, and candy making! Come at the start to enjoy all the demonstrations, or join for the one that piques your interest.
Learn about cheesemaking from author and cheese expert Tracey Johnson of cheeseneeds.com from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM! Tracey will demonstrate how to make this culinary treat, working on two batches at once to ensure visitors will be able to see the different processes and stages of cheese making. The curd cutting will take place at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. As an added bonus, she'll have samples for visitors to try and kits available for purchase if you decide you'd like to try making your own cheese at home!
Pop over to the kitchen of the Huble House, where we have Heidi and company preparing pierogies! Come hungry, because in addition to showing our visitors how to make a traditional meat pierogi, she'll also have a couple of helpers on hand cooking them up so you can sample some as well! Demonstrations of this skill run at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM!
Don't fill up too much, as next up will be candy making with Christine who will be showing visitors how to make a quick batch of an old-fashioned candy! She also has a couple of bonus candies that she's whipped up, which is where you come in!
Next up is butter making with Krystal, who will discuss the steps and materials needed to make butter - you'll be amazed at how simple it is!
End the day with a Huble classic - ice cream making! Help crank a batch of vanilla ice cream with Nicole, and be sure to taste a sample of the custard ice cream and chocolate ice cream made up in advance for your tasting pleasure!
Play one of our popular lawn games, try out the stilts, and treat yourself to a fresh piece of pie in the General Store! The BBQ will be serving a pancake breakfast from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, burgers and hot dogs will be on the menu. Peruse the General Store, where in keeping with the food theme, all jam and canned goods are 10% off.
